Today heralds the non-existence of tropical cyclones within the Philippine area of responsibility. However, signs of an possible Inter- Tropical Convergent Zone (ITCZ) at the southeastern portion of western Visayas is being closely monitored, the probability of it becoming a full- fledged typhoon is at the at approximately less than 50% as it is still way too far from land and is currently gathering strength from the Pacific Ocean.
The presence of the ITCZ will barely influence the sunny to moderately cloudy weather in the Luzon areas with scattered rainfalls particularly in the Metro Manila Area and the rest of NCR. Baguio City will be experiencing a further drop in temperature to around 14 degrees Celsius, thus, tourists can still enjoy its cool climate with light rain especially in the afternoons.
Western Visayas will experience cloudy skies with moderate to severe rainfall, especially in the Bicol region. This increases the risk for landslides and flashfloods so preparations for emergency evacuations by the local government are underway. Residents should be carefully informed of the measures to be taken if such events do occur, especially when the constant downpour in the area has softened the earth as manifested by small landslides in isolated and mountainous areas. Crop loss is anticipated by the local farmers and some of them have already harvested their crops early so as to avoid further capital losses. Unlike Western Visayas , Palawan and the rest of eastern Visayas will enjoy sunny skies to cloudy with moderate rain.
The Mindanao region, similar to that of Luzon area, will have sunny to moderately cloudy skies with light showers particularly in CDO, Zamboanga, and Davao. Also, Western Mindanao may only suffer moderate rain with occasional thunderstorms, and with it, reasonable risk for flashfloods or landslides. No urgent action by the government is needed at this time but it would help if announcements to the public is made regarding safety measures will be made.
